Introduction
The following list of Free Blacks was culled from a tax ledger book titled Tax Book 1818 Truro Parish. The ledger was written by George Millan, who lived in the Centreville, Virginia area. Free blacks were identified on the ledger with an "FB" following the name. Many of the Free Blacks were insolvent, possibly due to the economic Panic and Depression of 1819-1822.
